UNIKum is the name of my new, long-term project. A piece – a UNIKum – only exists if it creates connection. A unique connection. Between image and viewer. Between artist and world. A UNIKum artwork only exists if it touches a soul – so deeply that it is acquired. The creative process begins with an idea: a thought. An impulse. The artist’s desire to realize something visual – and to share it. From this, a photowalk emerges. Or a studio session. But not every excursion, not every image becomes a work of art. It is an attempt – an inner dialogue between the artist and their own creation. If the result moves them, then the first step has been taken. A work that is meant to endure. A one-of-a-kind. A UNIKum. Before the second step begins, the original file is deleted. Forever. No further editions. No return. No copy. Then the UNIKAT – our UNIKum – is offered for acquisition for exactly 10 days. If it is not acquired within this time, it is destroyed. The material components are recycled. It has not fulfilled its purpose. It has not found its artistic soul. It is dissolved. But I have made my attempt – to create connection. A dialogue with the world, with someone. My AP remains. The UNIKum itself: exists – or does not. No reproduction. No later print. No exceptions. And yet, more is created: For every UNIKum, a tree is planted – as a gesture of gratitude to our home, the Earth. If the UNIKum is acquired – a connection has been made! A unique piece of art has come into being. A UNIKum. For this, two additional trees are planted. One artwork. One connection. Three new lives. This is how I, as an artist, express my lifelong passion for photography in the form of art. And in this final creative phase, I seek connection. With people who believe in a better world. With this, I complete my attempt to create connection through art. My AP will be preserved – the original file and the unique piece, our UNIKum, will then either exist – or not.
